When a career or volunteer emergency responder is diagnosed with cancer, it becomes a tragedy for that individual, his or her family and the community. Sometimes the kinds of cancer these heroes are struck with are particularly aggressive and can affect people in these professions at alarmingly young ages, because of the nature of their work and their constant exposure to toxic materials. Foundation 58 was created to help firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical service personnel across the United States get some of the financial assistance they need to battle their disease.
